Who would have thought? Their world-class striker in Suarez, was banned for the first five matches of the season yet he is now the Premier League top goalscorer. Simply sensational.
However, despite their strong start, their lack of depth could be their undoing in the following months. With Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas failing to make any impression, Liverpool should attempt to buy one more striker. If they one more decent striker who could notch them an extra 10 goals and could perform in the cup competition in particular, they'd be in a fantastic position and this would ease the pressure and reliance on Strurridge and Suarez.
In midfield, Liverpool have been surprisingly strong this season. Although, they are carrying some dead-weight. Joe Allen has not lived up to expectations in the red shirt and proof of this was in the Merseyside derby where he missed a glaring opportunity. While Steven Gerrard isn't getting any younger and Henderson has yet fulfilled his potential, Rdogers may look in January or in the summer for a marquee midfield signing.
The defensive aspect of this Liverpool side may be the most impressive bit of this team. They have arguably the best goal-keeper in the Premier League, with a rock solid defense. Sakho has proven to be an intelligent signing by Rodgers as he's taken time to adjust to the English game.
They remain questionable at left-wing back, with Cissokho looking very one-dimensional being over-reliant on his left foot. However, Rodgers may have uncovered a gem in Jon Flanagan who was possibly Liverpool's Man of the Match against Everton.
This is a good Liverpool side, but they could really contest for the Premier League this season if they splash the cash in January and reinforce where needed.
Possible Targets:
Micah Richards - Manchester City
Fabio Coentrao - Real Madrid
Yann M'Vila - Rubin Kazan
Ivan Rakitic - Sevilla
Ryan Bertrand - Chelsea
Giuseppe Rossi - Fiorentina
