Bringing in David Moyes to one of the biggest clubs in the world, it almost seems compulsory for the new manager to sign at least one star player. But does Moyes really need too?

Evidently with the top 5 clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea, and even Tottenham, all signing well-known and exciting players the pressure has been cranked up on Moyes in recent weeks especially with the unconventional approaching to sign Fabregas, along with the joint bid for Fellaini and Baines which failed to materialise so far. This may have left Moyes a bit red-faced in the public eye, but he doesn’t seem to be rushing to bring in additions.
What most people seem to forget is, the majority of the team is still young, which means they’re improving all the time. Rafael, Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley, Welbeck to name just a few, will all come on leaps and bounds in the next few years, and all have the potential to be top players.
This is still the same squad that ran away with the title last season by 11 points, and with no major departures, they won’t be worse. The question is if they can improve enough to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea who have already displayed different styles from last season in their opening games.
Yes, a Marouane Fellaini would add some dynamism to the team, but it would hardly be disastrous for Manchester United if they hadn't added any players to their squad. They still arguably have 2 class players in each position, and with the likes of Ferdinand, Vidic, Giggs, and Evra still there to provide the experience there is no need for United fans to worry. There is also room for excitement around the club with the prospects of Wilfred Zaha, Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj ready to step into the team when given the chance.
Before the season began, most pundits have placed United to come third or fourth. After their convincing win during the weekend at Swansea, it was a signal, a statement to tell everyone that they’re going to be there at the end, whether it be at the top of the tree we will have to see. But they made quite clear by their clinical performance that they’re as strong as ever. Whereas their neighbors, Manchester City have switched styles of play to attractive football, United have stayed true to theirs. Winning.
Time will see if this current United squad is able to compete at the top, with a game against Chelsea around the corner, but Moyes seems perfectly content with the team he has, and why not? They’re a team of champions after all.
